Chapter: Chapter 1
Reader: Kristin LeMoine
URL link to audio: via FTP: ivanhoe_01_scott.mp3
I only uploaded one, but I have chapters 2-14 ready to upload as well. I wasn't sure if I should post them in one chunk, or do singly.

Note: Audio is compressed, can't tell if lossy or lossless compression was used, likely lossy, since the file is so small compared to te uncompressed version.

Hi Kristin,

thanks for the submission.

Post them in whatever manner is easiest for you ... all submissions are welcome and appreciated!

However, it might be better to submit individual chapters.  That way if there is a problem with the FTP link, you don't have to restart the whole transfer process from scratch.

thanks,

Ken

Hi Kristin,

Sorry, I didn't notice this until today, but I noticed you submitted "mp3" files.  Please note that VoxForge is only looking for uncompressed "wav" files, not "mp3" files (at this time ...).

MP3 compresses the recorded audio to save space (i.e. MP3 files are much smaller than WAV files).  This compression process causes the recording to "lose some information".  This "loss of information" is not discernible to most human ears, but can affect a speech recognition engine's ability to recognize regular speech - if it uses an acoustic model trained with such compressed speech (this is not to say that mp3 audio cannot be used to train and acoustic model - we are actually looking at using this right now - but uncompressed wav audio is the best source of speech audio for speech recognition purposes).

If you have the wav files, then please submit those.  If you don't, thanks for your interest in helping VoxForge out, but you don't need to submit your mp3 files directly to VoxForge, since we can get them from the LibriVox site.

thanks,

Ken

Ahh, I fully intended on sending my WAVs, but I'm a dufus and sent the wrong file. I'm sending some WAV versions of my chapters right now.
