Julius - Time taken to recognise commands

Hello. I have installed Julius on my Ubuntu Jaunty system from the repos, and followed some information found here and in the examples readme, but I'm having some problems.

BTW: My Mic is working fine - I can record clearly in Audacity and any other such application that I have tested on and there are no other sound issues with the system.

Problem: From the examples and the link above I have a small test setup that allows me to play with Rhythmbox (Using the command.py file). This seems to work, but the time taken to perform a command is excessive and I cant seem to work out how to shorten the length of time that Julius waits after I speak.

When I test Julius with "julius -input mic -C julian.jconf" as per the readme file, the words seem to be picked up okay, but after I speak nothing happens until a time out (I get a warning about this most times), and the number mentioned is 32000 (i think!).

I am assuming that this timeout is also what happens when I speak using the command:

"julius -quiet -input mic -C julian.jconf 2>/dev/null | ./command.py"

Commands DO work, but it takes quite some time, and of course if I speak again during this time, the commands are not recognised.

I appologise if I am getting something very simple wrong here. I think that I need to edit the julian.jconf file, but I cant find the item I need in there.

Can anyone offer any advice please?

Regards

Max

>but the time taken to perform a command is excessive

What do you mean by excessive?  Are you talking create than 1-2 seconds?

You might try a newer version of Julius. You might have to play with the Julius config files to get this to work.

Note that you can find the latest version of Julius here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/julius

(The package is for Karmic, but you can install it on Jaunty without any problems.)
